Love God. Love Others.

Simple, but challenging.

Sometimes described as two pillars of following Jesus,

we will explore the connective nature of our relationship with

God and others while learning what it means to live out his love in our world.

-Matthew 22:37-40 #NYC19GO

9 days. 161 New Englanders joining over 8,000 others from around USA/Canada. 115 degrees.

What does all that equal?

Nazarene Youth Conference!

What an amazing time we had over the last 9 days as we gathered with over 8,000 others in Phoenix, Arizona for NYC 19. God moved in a mighty way among our students! It was an experience that is hard to put into words. As you stand in the arena and are surrounded by thousands of voices lifting up praise to God – it moves you to tears. We spent four days diving into the commandment of Jesus to love God and love others from Matthew 22:35-40 and the Shema in Deuteronomy 6:4-5. We were challenged to remember:

  • To go ALL IN with God – we cannot fully live out our calling to love if we do not fully surrender to God first.
  • Sin unravels the tapestry that God is creating; God wants to knit us back together – sin unravels, but God restores.
  • That the foundation of the church is LOVE – we are to be the hands and feet of Christ in this world; to come alongside the other; to step into their story and share the journey.
  • We need a sense of urgency – there is a hurting, broken world that is desperate to see Jesus.
  • Loving God and loving others are the wings – in order to fly and live a life of love we must have BOTH! Love creates the lift – it’s what makes us soar! What would happen if we loved God and loved others TOGETHER?!?

So, now what? How do we support our students that have just come back challenged and changed?

  1. Listen – take time to listen to their stories. Ask them about what they heard from God. How were they challenged? What has God called them to?
  2. Encourage – be their cheerleaders and greatest encouragers. Join them on the journey as they seek to live out the commitments they made this past week.
  3. PRAY – pray that the commitments made will take root and grow deep. Pray that they would continue to draw closer to Christ and allow Him to have first place. Pray that the doubts that try to creep in will not take hold-  that they will remember that God is bigger and they can truly LOVE GOD, LOVE OTHERS, and LIVE A LIFE of LOVE through the power of Christ at work within them!

I will end this update in the same way we ended every session at NYC:

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. And as for us, we will love the Lord our God with all our hearts, with all our soul, and with all our strength. Amen!
