When are registration forms due?
Registration is $50 for participants if registered by October 31st.
Registration entered AFTER November 1st will cost $60.
Walk in Registration for day of- November 15- will be $70.
What if a student
wants to attend, but not participate?
Students are more than welcome to attend VIDA as a spectator.
The registration fee will be the same for both spectators and participants.
What adults are
needed for VIDA?
We are in need of judges for all of our arts and music categories as well as coaches for our athletics.
Churches should plan to send one adult chaperone for every 5-7 students registered to attend.
What are the lodging accommodations for VIDA?
Students and adults will be spending the night at Manchester Church of the Nazarene.
How will the arts categories be judged?
Arts & Crafts - originality, technique, concept, composition, color
Interpretive Worship - selection, clarity of presentation, creativity, transition, attitude of worship, overall presentation
Bands - presentation, selection, difficulty, accuracy, articulation, tone quality, blend, rhythmic accuracy, technique
Creative Writing & Poetry - grammar, content and message, structure, vocabulary, presentation, originality, concept, format, spelling & word usage, flow
Digital Media - selection, integration, creativity, originality, difficulty, overall presentation
Drama - appearance, intensity, articulation, body language, inflection, characterization, movement, interpretation, content, memorization
Instrumental(s) - dynamics, phrasing, appropriateness, posture, articulation, rhythmic accuracy, tone quality, accuracy, difficulty
Vocals - dynamics, phrasing, appropriateness, memorization, articulation, rhythmic accuracy, tone quality, accuracy, difficulty, stage presence
What is required with all art submissions?
An Art form is required and it must be typed. .
WHAT SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS ARE RELATED TO MUSIC CATEGORIES?
All music categories must convey a Christian message. Music performances cannot be more than 8 minutes in length and must be memorized. A copy of the music must be presented to the judges.
Background vocals are not permitted on accompaniment. Original music compositions must be submitted as a manuscript.
Do I need copyright permission for music?
Performers need to provide the judges with 3 copies of their musical piece – sheet music with music notes.
If the music has been purchased from the internet, no copyright permission is needed.
If the music provided is from a purchased book, no copyright permission is needed.
What form may
accompaniments be submitted for vocal solos, vocal groups, and choirs?
Accompaniments may either be keyboardists or music that can be streamed from your personal device. We will provide both a lightning port and USBC. We recommend that you download the accompaniment if streaming in case of wi-fi connection issues.
When are communication arts to be submitted?
All communication arts entries must be submitted by 8:30 pm on Friday night, or they will not be eligible for judging.
These include photography, writing, drawings and paintings.
What requirements are related to
Creative Writing?
Entries must be typed in double space format and must use the Times Roman Font.
2 copies of creative writing and poems must be submitted.
Writing pieces may not exceed 2000 words.
What requirements are related to
Photography?
All entries must be original photos.
No photo shopping is allowed.
Photos must be framed or matted.
What requirements are related to Drama?
Drama entries will be judged on the following: appearance, poise, audience contact, articulation, voice projection, characterization, and memorization.
Dramatizations may not be longer than 8 minutes. Dramas are by GROUPS only.
Any categories that require music, are to be entered into Interpretive Worship.
What requirements are related to Arts and Crafts?
Judged categories include: Paintings, Drawings & Prints, Still Photography, Sculpture, and Crafts.
All submissions must be accompanied by a typed Arts & Crafts form; Students are only allowed to enter one entry per category.
